Welcome to tech lead

I have recently been asked if I would like to take on a role as tech lead for one of our analytics teams. As such I would be reporting into the head of data who is also responsible for two other coworkers in a similar position, one for revenue analytics and one for data engineering, making me responsible for product data analytics. Together with me there are 3 other product data analysts who all have slightly different domains within our product portfolio.
it sounds like a pretty good gig making me happy to jump on the opportunity and give it my best shot. This happened only a couple of weeks ago. I have no idea where this journey will end, but I am happy to take you along for the ride.

First priority in the new role: everything – all at once.

It is easy to say I am currently still overwhelmed and trying to figure out where my head is and where my responsibilities are. As tech lead I am responsible for the technical development of three other, highly talented, data analysts. How can I make sure I don’t bore them? How can I unlock their full potential? How will I know if they are progressing? Will they know if I a, the issue for them stagnating in their development? Currently I have a lot of questions which I am trying to get the answers to with a combination of intuition and research. The biggest one I found the answer to already. Why me? Because someone thinks I have what it takes and someone believes in me. This gives me the confidence to figure it out and move on from here. This also means I have someone who has may back and someone who I can consult.
I will figure out all of the other questions later and I will let you know how it goes.

If you find yourself in a new role: It is okay to be overwhelmed, stressed and a little lost. Change is scary. Take your time and give yourself some time to figure it out and grow in to the new role. You are here because someone thinks you are the right person for the job. Someone believes in you and someone has your back. You got this. We got this.
